Abstract

The article examined the conceptual foundations of business process transformation and enterprise competitiveness in the digital economy. The author combined reengineering theory, digital transformation concepts, business model innovation and the resource-based view within one analytical framework. Traditional and digitally transformed processes were compared across six process domains, and four digital maturity stages with their competitiveness effects were presented in a conceptual matrix. An integral digital transformation index, based on the weighted sum of normalised indicators across four structural layers of the enterprise, was proposed. The rise of internet users in Uzbekistan to 89.5 percent in 2024 and the country’s move to 63rd place in the UN E-Government Development Index showed a favourable external environment for enterprises. It was substantiated that automating existing processes without change yields limited effect, while sustainable competitive advantage emerges at the stages where processes are integrated and digital resources become firm-specific capabilities. A layered model linking digital infrastructure with competitive advantage was developed, and proposals on staged management of digital transformation were substantiated.
