Abstract

The article examined how the economic value of carbon emissions avoided by renewable energy projects at industrial enterprises could be assessed. Theories of the social cost of carbon, marginal abatement cost curves and carbon pricing were synthesised. A two-stage model was proposed in which avoided emissions were derived from the grid emission factor and valued under discounted carbon price scenarios. Using data from international financial institutions, the International Energy Agency and the World Bank, an illustrative calculation was performed for a 1 MW rooftop solar plant. The plant avoided about 781 tonnes of CO₂ per year, and its twentyfive-year climate value ranged from 0.2 to 2.4 million US dollars. A negative abatement cost confirmed benefits for both the enterprise and society. Proposals on internal carbon pricing were developed.
