Abstract

The article examines the factors shaping the ecological and economic specialization of regions and their impact on the sustainable development of the regional economy. The role of natural resource potential, production structure, environmental load, innovation activity and institutional conditions in the process of territorial specialization is substantiated. The interrelation between ecological and economic factors is analysed on the basis of a systems approach, and the mechanisms of their influence on resource use efficiency, economic competitiveness and environmental sustainability are described. Taking into account the ecological and economic features of regions, priority directions for improving specialization are identified. The empirical basis of the study consisted of statistical indicators for 2016-2025 across the regions of Uzbekistan and the cities and districts of Namangan region. The results showed that the share of Namangan region in the national gross domestic product declined from 5.19 to 4.62 percent, while industrial production in the region was highly concentrated in Namangan city and Turakurgan district.
