Abstract

The article provides an in-depth analysis of the growing socio -economic disparities between regions under the conditions of globalization and examines the mechanisms behind regional inequalities based on the experience of both developed and developing countries. The study highlights the concentration of economic activity in major metropolitan areas, intermediate industrial regions, and tourism hubs, contrasted with the persistent underdevelopment and limited investment capacity of peripheral regions. It demonstrates how capital mobility, technological upgrading, market liberalization, and agricultural competition contribute to widening spatial disparities. The article also evaluates the concept of regional competitiveness, the role of national policies in regulating territorial development, and the importance of fostering local synergies as a prerequisite for sustainable regional growth.
