Abstract

The article examines current global and regional trends in the development of the bioeconomy as one of the promising areas for transforming the traditional model of economic development. The study substantiates the need to transition towards more efficient use of biological resources based on the principles of sustainability, circularity, biodiversity conservation, climate adaptation, and value-added creation. Particular attention is paid to the specific features of bioeconomy development in Central Asia and the opportunities for their implementation in the Kyrgyz Republic. Based on an analysis of Kyrgyzstan’s natural-resource, agricultural, biological, and socio-economic potential, the article proposes considering the formation of a “mountain bioeconomy model” as a promising direction of national development. Priority areas are identified, including sustainable agriculture, rational use of pasture and forest resources, processing of biological raw materials, bioenergy, biotechnology, biodiversity conservation, development of ecosystem services, and bioeconomy-based tourism. The article substantiates the need to expand interstate cooperation among Central Asian countries in the field of bioeconomy, including scientific and technological cooperation, development of cross-border value chains, exchange of innovations, and human capital development.
