Abstract

The article examines mechanisms for increasing the competitiveness of banking services in commercial banks. The concentration level of Uzbekistanʼs banking system, the state share, the interest margin and the coverage of digital services are compared with international indicators. An integrated approach is substantiated that assesses competitiveness through the unity of price, quality, digital and institutional factors. The study relies on data from the Central Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, as well as on foreign experience. The results show that the Herfindahl-Hirschman index calculated across individual banks ranges from 698 to 781, while the index aggregated by ultimate owner exceeds 4100. The loan-to-deposit ratio is 190% in banks with state participation and 98% in other banks, which indicates a market split into two segments. An integrated index of banking service competitiveness is proposed for monitoring the effectiveness of the mechanism. Based on the results, three practical proposals are developed: introducing open banking, a unified customer-oriented service quality standard, and reducing the state share.
