Abstract

This article describes the importance of warehouses in the logistics system. In our country, the development and improvement of the service sector, as well as logistics and freight transportation, warehouse logistics are urgent issues of the day. Types of warehouses are described according to their importance in the production process and the service sector. The study analyses the role of warehouse facilities in the logistics system, the content of the concepts of warehouse service and warehousing, the costs associated with storing inventory in a warehouse, and the positive aspects of warehousing. Warehouses of production organizations are divided into five types, and enterprise warehouses by service area into three types; their functions are presented in diagrams. The place of warehouse facilities in the management structure of an enterprise, within the unit that manages material and distribution flows, is shown. The study uses a systems approach, comparative and logical analysis, and the grouping method. Suggestions are made for the further development and improvement of warehouse activities aimed at raising service quality, expanding the range of services, introducing information technologies and reducing costs.
